TOURISM STARTS WITH MIRS: Pasiano Teams Up to Become a Destination of Excellence.

Not Just a Cultural Landmark, but a Real Engine for Economic and Tourism Development for Pasiano and the Entire Region. That was the key message that emerged from a recent meeting held at MIRS—the new Interactive Museum of Radio and Society—between the municipal administration and local representatives of Federalberghi and the Pordenone Tourism Consortium. The event also welcomed hotel owners, B&B hosts, and agritourism operators from the area. It was an opportunity to share projects and future prospects, creating synergy among all the stakeholders involved.

In less than a year, the museum has already welcomed over 2,500 visitors—not only from Friuli Venezia Giulia, but also from other Italian regions and abroad. Local tourism operators now recognize MIRS as a strategic point for attracting new tourist flows and positioning Pasiano as a quality destination.

“The enthusiastic response we received from hospitality providers confirms that MIRS can become our calling card for visitors from outside the area,” emphasized Mayor Marta Amadio. “Pasiano and its hamlets offer nine accommodation facilities, including hotels, farm stays, guesthouses, and bed & breakfasts, with a total of 215 beds, many of which are accessible to people with disabilities. Creating a network around the museum means offering visitors not just a site to explore, but a complete experience of hospitality, culture, and territory.”

The meeting was attended by Gianpiero Zanolin, President of Federalberghi for the Province of Pordenone; Giovanna Santin, President of the Pordenone Tourism Consortium; and Gabriella Gaiotti, manager of the Sile and Meduna Commerce District, which Pasiano is part of along with the municipalities of Azzano Decimo, Prata, Fiume Veneto, Chions, and Pravisdomini.

“This meeting was an important opportunity to connect and engage with local hoteliers and restaurateurs, sharing common goals and projects,” commented Santin. “It was a significant step towards new synergies in promoting the area. A heartfelt thank you goes to the Municipality of Pasiano di Pordenone and to MIRS for their hospitality and openness.”

During the meeting, the municipal administration gifted tourism operators with copies of the museum’s historic radio catalog and informational brochures (also available in English), encouraging them to offer them to their guests. The Tourism Consortium also distributed envelopes containing promotional materials highlighting local attractions. Those who were unable to attend will receive the same materials directly from the mayor and tourism councillor, as part of an ongoing outreach effort to build a stable collaborative network for future events.

“This meeting marked a decisive step in strengthening our tourism offering,” added Loris Canton, Councillor for Commerce and Tourism. “Collaboration among operators is essential to make Pasiano more attractive and welcoming. MIRS is more than just a museum—it embodies shared history and identity and serves as the perfect catalyst for growing both tourism and commerce. A telling figure confirms we are on the right track: nearly 50% of people staying in the Sile and Meduna District pass through Pasiano.”

Inspired by this collaboration, the municipality and local operators are already exploring the creation of tourism packages featuring guided tours of MIRS, food and wine experiences, and immersive activities throughout the area—all aligned with Pordenone’s candidacy for Italian Capital of Culture 2027, of which the museum is proudly an integral part.
